Titicaca – the Mediterranean of the Andes

At first it was hard to imagine that we were at 3900m of altitude when we arrived at the Titicaca lake, but then we took a small path up to Copacabana’s Cerro Calvario and felt the height in our lungs and legs. From the top of the hill we had a beautiful view over the lake. It often gets compared to the Mediterranean based on its azure water colour and the sunny weather. Visiting the place during the rain season we were fairly lucky to get the same impression. Looking down to the town we could still make up the festivities that we had encountered earlier that day. Hundreds of local in their best dresses were dancing, laughing and enjoying huge bottles of beer and a few tourists tried to blend in.

The next morning we joined a very common boat trip to the Isla del Sol, with its important Inca relicts, stunningly beautiful views and cash-hungry inhabitants. Well worth a visit!
