Berlin – Copenhagen: Thermal bananas and an Achilles Tendonosis

On Tuesday, 28th, Simon and I finally left Berlin and started the first part of our journey towards Copenhagen. Out of the busy streets of Berlin, the well marked long-distance cycle route quickly led us away from the traffic, through the dense woods of Brandenburg, along the Havel canal, through pittoresque villages and the many bright yellow rapeseed fields of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. We got fairly lucky with the weather and so we advanced quickly, did the ferry crossing to Denmark at the end of the third day and reached Copenhagen at the end of the fifth day.
600km in 5 days at the start of the tour, that was quite ambitious, but unfortunately too much for my right Achilles tendon. And so here I am on my fourth day in Copenhagen, resting my feet, hoping to cure the painful inflammation, longing to continue. Fortunately I’m at good friends here, so the rest is a pleasant one! Thanks a lot, Hobel and Doro!
As a note: Simon had the same problem when he arrived at Berlin. But at his young age, the inflammation had pretty much passed after 2 days already. Makes me feel old again…

DSC08186So what about that banana? – No, it’s not a new gadget of ours, I actually peeled the ‘thermal’ sticker of my new socks after a fairly cold night at a bivouac hut in Denmark. It’s an award for myself, a negative one. Just as our bicycle adventure in Chile, we started this one too early. And so we will have to deal again with some really cold weather, maybe a bit more rain and even some snowed in mountain passes. Some people just don’t want to learn…
